If you’re counting down until the end of the season, stop counting and start doing. Now is the time to take action before the ski trails melt into mountain bike trails As they say, “carpe ski-em.” Okay, so maybe you won’t hit the 100+ ski day mark on Epic Mix, but there’s still plenty of time to rack up a few more days, learn some new tricks – or techniques – and make some memories on the slopes. Here’s our spring skiing bucket list for the end of the season:
7. One last powder day
Spring skiing is known for its warm sunny days, but did you know March is one of the snowiest months of the year? It’s a perfect time of year to enjoy a classic powder day. Monitor the Keystone forecasts, bookmark our snow cam and sign up for powder day alerts. Then, do your snow dances
6. First chair to rip through some corduroy
Powder days aren’t the only reason to wake up early. Nothing beats an early morning cruise on fresh corduroy. In spring, wait until the snow softens up – either right after a storm or mid-morning once the temperatures start to rise. After ripping up some groomers, take a break and lounge in an Adirondack chair on the “beach” in front of La Bonte’s Smokehouse. Fair warning, though: The wafting smoky scents from the grill are hard to resist. Our best tip is to order up, dig in and kick back with some of the best slope-side barbecue in the world.
5. Watch the sun set while night skiing
If you love to ski, there’s no reason to stop just because the sun sets. At Keystone, the night lights allow you to extend your ski day. But, it’s more than just racking up Epic Mix vertical feet, night skiing also gives you the unique opportunity to experience a Rocky Mountain sunset from the top of a mountain – without the usual huffing and puffing of hiking to the top. Bonus: When you book lodging through KeystoneResort.com, night skiing is free on the day, er night, of your arrival.
4. Stretch your skills with a lesson
Remember how you promised yourself you’d get better by taking a lesson this season? Now’s the time to do it! Perfect that one skill, master the bumps, tackle the trees or advance to the next level with a lesson from the Keystone Ski and Ride School.
3. Make a splash with spring events
You could end the season with a bang, but why not end it with a splash? That’s the way we do it at Keystone with the Slush Cup, an annual pond-skimming tradition. Skiers and snowboarders hurtle down the slopes, launch off a jump and test their mettle and pond skimming skills as the crowd goes wild for the colorful costumes, impressively chilly falls, hilarious commentary and fist-pumping tunes.
2. Take time for a little fun off the mountain
Yes, we get it. You came here to ski and ride and check your Epic Mix stats, but don’t forget about the fun off the mountain. There’s so much to do, you could (and should) plan a second vacation or extend your vacation by another week to experience it all – tubing, ice skating and sleigh rides and daily Kidtopia activities, plus more. So much more.
1. Create memories that are priceless
Don’t wait for the perfect time. Or, until you get that next raise. Or, bonus. Just book your trip now, before the season ends. Think of it as an investment in creating long-lasting memories with your family – or friends – instead of indulging in a ski vacation. Then, don’t wait for the perfect lighting or the perfect pose, capture the memories on the slopes either with an Epic Mix photographer or with your own snaps – and get some video – to remember the moment and those special moments. There’s only thing left to do: Say Cheese!
