KIDTOPIA: Free Daily Family Fun & Adventure

Hi! I’m Keystone’s Kidtopia events coordinator, Jessica. I have the privilege to work where most people vacation, combining my passion for events and love for kids. Kidtopia is the ultimate playground for fun and adventure, with free daily activities and events that the whole family can enjoy. In its fourth year, Kidtopia is back and bigger than ever with daily programming!

Here is an overview of the 2015 Kidtopia Schedule. We have kept some of your favorites, but also added some brand new events to keep things exciting. These activities are meant to get families together to spend quality time off the mountain. Kidtopia opening weekend kick-off will start Friday November 27th.

FRIDAYS

Family Movie Night
Fridays 5pm
Mountain House Food Court
Mountain House will be selling dinner that’s only appropriate for a Friday- PIZZA! Black Diamond Pizzeria will stay open during the duration of the movie 4:30pm-7pm. We are offering a special coupon for a discount on pizza exclusively for this event. Visit any of our other Kidtopia events to get this special coupon. We will be showing the movie upstairs and to the left (to ensure a nice quiet spot for the movie). Our face painter will transform any child (or child at heart) into any character or animal they wish! She is absolutely incredible. Also during this time, you can choose to make a craft keepsake to remember all the fun times you had at Keystone. DJ Ice Skate Party
Saturdays 2:00-5:00pm
Dercum Ice Rink
Come listen to our guest DJ mix and rock out your favorite tunes. Sit by the fire and relax or get your skates on and skate to good music. Our DJ accepts requests! Skate rentals for adults is just $15 and children under 12 just $10. Also during this time is our Cookie time at 4pm!

 

Ripperoo’s Parade
Saturdays 4:00pm
River Run Kids Ski and Ride School
We’ve kept one of your favorites! Come and join Ripperoo as he parades through the village with his Ski School friends every Saturday. Help them dance their way to the Dercum Square Ice Rink to enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and cookies. The parade also features performers, giveaways, and a parade float for Ripperoo’s young friends to ride along. The songs have changed this year and we have a new dance routine to perform for you. The parade starts at the Gondola plaza and ends at Dercum Ice Rink.

Big Foot Adventure Walk
Saturdays &Tuesdays 5:45pm & 7:15pmRegister at Activities and Dining
This was another fan favorite of last year. In Search of Bigfoot Adventure Walk teaches children about the area, animals & of course Bigfoot, while they embark on a nature walk in Keystone. The adventure walk is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes long. This activity is appropriate to children ages 5 to 12. Adventure walk is outside. Please wear suitable clothes and footwear for winter weather. The 5:45pm tour will finish just in time to view the fireworks on Saturday evenings and just in time before the 7:15 tour. This is a popular tour especially on Saturdays, so you MUST register for this event. It is free, but you must reserve your spot. If you are unable to attend our Big Foot adventure, but you still believe, head to Activities & Dining because they will be selling “I believe” Big Foot t-shirts for only $5!

Fireworks!
Saturdays 7pm
View from River Run Village
There’s no better way to end your Saturday with a fantastic show of fireworks. The best place to view them is near Gondola plaza, but you can easily see them throughout River Run Village and in the distance from Lakeside Village! Due to daylight savings, the fireworks show time will change to 8pm starting March 19.

 

 

SUNDAYS

Ice cream with Ripperoo
Sundays 3:30pm
Mountain House Food Court
What is better than a couple scoops and hanging out with your favorite pup? Come to Mountain House to eat some delicious ice cream, meet Ripperoo and have a chance to create your own Ripperoo t-shirt to remember all the fun times you had on the mountain. Ripperoo will be available for pictures, so don’t forget to bring your cameras! Ice cream and t-shirt coloring will be upstairs at the Mountain House Food Court. It’s a great way to end your day on the mountain or after a lesson. It’s also a great end for parents too! Last Lift Bar is just steps away.

Starquest Night Sky Exploration
Sundays 5:30pm
Kidtopia Headquarters
Each week Keystone Science School will explore the furthest parts of our universe. We will provide a lesson activity, the chance to view celestial objects up close and personal and explore the winter constellations. This program will truly be out of this world! The time will change to 6:30pm on March 13, due to daylight savings time.

MONDAYS

Giant Snowball Launch
Mondays 4:30pm
Mountain House Base area
Do you think you can launch a snowball farther than anyone else in your family? Put your skills to the test in our giant snowball launch area and show your friends what you have got. Complete with targets and prizes for the longest launch and best aim. Take cover this activity proves to be a great time for everyone. Our Snowball launch is a sling-shot sort of system. Bring water-proof gloves if you have them to keep your hands nice and warm. You will find us behind Mountain House Food Court next to the bridge,

TUESDAYS

Meet the Avy Dogs
Tuesdays 4:00pm
Kidtopia Headquarters
There’s nothing cuter than a dog in uniform! Meet the rescue mountain dogs from Keystone. Ski patrol will answer questions you may have about the Avy dogs and their job. Another great photo op, so bring your cameras!

WEDNESDAYS

Kidtopia’s Wacky Tacky Party
Wednesdays
5-7:30pm Kidtopia Headquarters
Our Wacky Tack party is also new this year and things will get wild every Wednesday! This crazy party includes dance music, party games, prizes, and a fantastic face painter. Bring your cameras for our zany photo booth stocked with silly props! Party games will change each week, so be sure to stop by to see our event schedule. Dress up in your wackiest, tackiest outfit because one party-goer will win our costume contest complete with a prize!

THURSDAYS

Old Fashioned Tubing with Ripperoo
Thursdays 2-3pm
Nordic Center
Check out the Nordic Center’s Tubing Hill the old-fashioned way- walk up, slide down! This is great for families with young children or grandparents. Ripperoo will be around to join in the fun. Tube rentals are free for the hour and are first come first serve. The hill will close at 3pm. You will have to get in the car for this one, or call our free shuttle service 970-496-4200 and they will be sure to get you there!

Family Wii and Board Games
Thursdays 4:30-7:30pm
Kidtopia Headquarters
Unplug and connect with the family. Come join us Thursday nights for a traditional family fun board game night. We will provide a variety of games or feel free to bring some of you favorites to share. If board games are too old-fashioned for you- come play Wii on a GIANT screen! Challenge your family members to a game of Mario Kart 8, Wii Sports, or Super Smash Bros. Foosball is also available, so come on over to Kidtopia Headquarters in River Run and let’s play!

DAILY ACTIVITIES

Scavenger Hunt
Daily at Activities & Dining
Fun for the whole family. Pick up a Kidtopia Scavenger Hunt stamp book and hint map at activities and dining and let your adventure begin. This fun hunt can be finished in a day or you can take your time throughout the season. The goal is to collect all the stamps available and bring your scavenger hunt book back to activities and dining for a special prize. This adventure will span across the resort on hill and within the two base areas, good luck!

Cookie Time

Daily 4:00pm at Dercum Ice rink
Enjoy a complimentary cookie baked fresh daily! Our staff at the Dercum Ice rink will be handing them out and be sure to get there on time! They are delicious and they go quickly! Dercum Ice Rink sells hot chocolate that pairs nicely with our cookies.

Kidtopia Headquarters
Wednesday-Sunday 9:30am-3pm
Is it too cold out? Need a small break from all that adventure? This space is meant for families to spend time together. There are several activities you can enjoy together such as coloring, foosball, giant lego play, ski patrol pretend play, splint tutorial, snow tutorial, and paper snowflake crafts! Have questions about Kidtopia or any of Kidtopia’s schedule of events? Talk to our Kidtopia specialist! Kidtopia Headquarters is not a drop off service. Please do not leave your children unsupervised.

Ready, Paint, Fire
Daily 12-6pm
Ready, Paint, Fire Art studio (next to Kidtopia HQ)
Ready Paint Fire is a “Paint Your Own” Art Studio, offering pottery and canvas ranging from $5-$50. Great for all ages and no experience necessary! Choose from a wide selection of ceramic pieces such as mugs and platters or kid-tastic figurines or choose a canvas painting, pre-sketched for the little ones and step-by-step from a great variety of images for the older crowd. What I really like about this studio is that their turnover time for finishing pottery is under 24 hours! This is great for families on vacation! Also, if your child wants a break from ski school, but still wants to do something fun, check out their day camp programming on their website http://www.readypaintfireco.com/ call 970-453-5765 or visit them in store. They require that you make reservations 24 hours in advance.
