Top 10 Activities & Events to Keep Your Kids Busy this Summer

As the school year comes to a close and your kids attention turns from geography and math to summer camp and outdoor adventure, we grown-ups feel the impending stress of planning the summer vacation with enough of the right activities to keep them entertained (and out of trouble).

Well, to help ease the stress we’ve compiled the best of the best activities & events at Keystone! From mountain biking to hiking, horseback riding to wagon dinner rides or just enjoying pool time together – come experience summer in Keystone, Colorado!

1. Kidtopia Activities

  • Kidtopia is back with a bang this summer! Family friendly activities such as Go Fly A Kite, Wild West Nights, Family Dodgeball, Splash Fest, and Cupcakes & Canvases are taking place daily!
  • Best for: all ages
  • Can’t miss: Kidtopia Discovery Days – Free performances, facepainting, bounce houses & more!

2. Keystone Science School Summer Camp

  • Located at 9,200 feet on the site of Old Keystone Village in Keystone, Colorado, The Keystone Science School 23-acre campus serves as the ultimate outdoor laboratory and is the home base for their diverse suite of programs. and include log-style dormitories, a central dining hall, an outdoor amphitheater, and a state-of-the-art observatory.
  • Best for: ages 5 -11 years old
  • Can’t miss: Superhero POWER Week – “Put on your superhero cape and get ready to save KSS, one circuit at a time. We’ll be taking a look at historical heroes like Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla, building potato circuits, and flying kites just like Benjamin Franklin.”

3. Summer Snow Tubing

  • If you’ve still got the itch for winter, you can hit the snow on a tube at 11,640 ft in the middle of summer!
  • Best for: 4 years old and older (42″ requirement)
  • Can’t miss: Tubing on 4th of July!

 

4. Paddleboards & Boats!

  • The Adventure Center at Lakeside Village is the perfect place for the family to spend quality time together doing fun activities, while enjoying incredible views of the mountains and continental divide. Try out paddle-boarding around the lake, paddleboat as a family, feed the fish or play volleyball.
  • Best for: All ages
  • Can’t miss: Paddleboard Yoga – Work on your flexibility out on the water, just be careful or you’ll take a dip!

 5. Mountain Biking

  • On Friday, June 12, Keystone’s lifts will begin to spin again, providing lift-serviced access to 100 miles of singletrack mountain biking terrain. Sorry powder hounds, but dirt reigns king come summer.
  • Best for: Teens
  • Can’t miss: Bumps and Bends Package – Learn how to navigate sharp corners and ride on loose dirt. Part of this clinic includes one ride down our 7 mile beginner trail.

 

6. Biking Around Town

  • Cruise through Keystone from one village to another via bike. Our bike path connects River Run Village to Lakeside Village. From there you can continue on the trail towards the River Course at Keystone Golf Course and Lake Dillon bike path. It’s a great way to tour the area and enjoy scenic spots along the ride.
  • Best for: All ages
  • Can’t miss: 4th of July Bike Parade – Join in the fun of our 4th of July Celebration and ride through the River Run Village with other bike enthusiasts.

 


7. Horseback & Wagon Rides

  • Come experience the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains via horseback and wagon rides. Our Wagon Rides are a great option for the family with a variety of ages from infants to adults. Horseback rides are a great option for those with older kids looking to have a sense of independence within a group.

  • Can’t miss: Wild West Nights – Bike over to the Keystone Stables for s’mores, family movies, campfire songs, horse rides, and beautiful sunsets!

 

8. Pooltime

  • We’ve got pretty incredible pools located in our villages where you can spend hours soaking up the sun and playing with the family poolside! One of our favorites is the Springs right in River Run Village. Perfect for families, this poolside area features a slide into the pool, hot tubs and an outdoor fire pit.

  • Can’t miss: The slides!

 

9. Golf

  • We have two amazing courses which are fun for the whole fam! Both courses offer amazing views and a great opportunities to be outside.
  • Best for: Ages 5 & up
  • Can’t miss: Kids Swing Free – Junior golfers play free every Evening with a paying adult. Junior rental clubs included (if available). Golf fee is $55 for adults and adult rental clubs are just $15. Evening start times vary by season.

 

10. Take A Hike

  • Take a scenic lift ride to the top of the mountain with the family for access to our hiking trails with views of the Ten Mile & Gore Ranges, the Continental Divide, and Lake Dillon.
  • Best for: All ages
  • Can’t miss: Mountain Top Nature Hike – Explore Keystone hiking trails, meet new friends, and learn more about Keystone’s history, wildflowers and wildlife while experiencing magnificent views!  Hiking in the mountains is healthy and can be done by anybody. We provide variety of different levels and lengths of hiking guided trips ranging from 2 miles to 5+ miles.
