The Kids Table Finally Has Some Perks
As a parent with two young children, I don’t think I am alone when I admit a nice meal out just isn’t what it used to be. Between keeping the glasses of ice water, coffee/wine out of lap-dumping reach, getting the kids set-up with crayons (keeping the kids from eating the crayons) ordering the food, distracting everyone until the food arrives, ensuring the kids eat their food and then trying to prevent them from jumping out of their seats or crawling all over the table before the check arrives, I am pretty much exhausted by the end of the meal and opt for a meal at home over the leisurely brunches, or indulgent dinners of yester-year. Sigh.
I was over-joyed to learn of a family dining experience that changes all that. The Bighorn Bistro located in the Keystone Lodge & Spa offers a Sunday Brunch the whole family can enjoy. After loading the kid’s plate up at the Children’s buffet, they are invited to head into a special room of their own where they can enjoy their pancakes, eggs, fruit and other treats while watching a movie, making crafts and enjoying time with other kids. An additional high-light comes in the form of a visit from Ripperoo, Keystone’s furry Mascot or Santa. The kids are supervised by professional child-care professionals who are on hand to lend a helping hand.
Meanwhile, Parents enjoy a classic brunch including lox, eggs benedict and other tasty nosh in the adjacent Bighorn dining room with views of the Continental Divide and relaxing music and adult conversation. For the extra relaxed morning, upgrade to the bottomless mimosa option or partake in the home-grown, Bloody Mary Bar featuring standard features like horse-radish, pepperoncini’s and bacon along with ingredients like cucumbers, cauliflower and olives pickled in-house. 
Round out the day by stopping by Keystone’s Adventure Center for a family skate session on the 5 acre, Zamboni maintained outdoor ice-rink- with little ones, we skate and pull the kids along in a sleigh behind us. Which makes me feel less guilty about the second helping of stuffed French Toast and thrills Hyland & Skylar.
The Pajama Brunch becomes extra magical over the Holidays with visits from Santa over select dates and the Chocolate Village located in the Lodge lobby from December 19th – January 4th. A yearly favorite, you do not want to miss the homemade creation from Keystone Resort’s Pastry Chef Ned Archibald. This handcrafted holiday tradition features 8,000 pounds of chocolate crafted into a miniature alpine village, a working chocolate gondola, a cascading chocolate waterfall, 4 foot tall white chocolate Christmas tree with chocolate presents. Step outside for a perfect photo op in a sleigh carved out of ice complete with nine reindeer by Keystone Chef Steve Nguyen and team.
